Running a business isn’t easy, especially in today’s uncertain climate. That’s why it helps to know the people behind the businesses you trust. At CMC, the driving force comes from two experienced and down-to-earth individuals who know exactly what it takes to lead, grow, and support successful companies.
Rupert Beazley and Richard Lloyd are the co-owners of CMC, and together they bring a rare blend of corporate insight, entrepreneurial know-how, and a deep understanding of the challenges SME business owners face.
Here’s a closer look at who they are, why they took the reins at CMC, and how their vision is shaping the future of the business – with you in mind.
Rupert’s journey to co-owning CMC began, like many business owners, with rolling up his sleeves and building something from the ground up. After a successful corporate career, he turned his focus to franchising, developing a business under the Countrywide brand that grew to a £1 million turnover and 24 staff.
He sold that business in 2012 and joined CMC as a Business Adviser, where he spent the next decade working side-by-side with SME owners across a wide range of industries. In 2022, seeing the opportunity to take the business to new heights, Rupert decided to embrace the adventure with fresh ambition and become the owner.
He brings a calm, thoughtful approach to every business challenge, and a passion for helping others turn their plans into progress. Outside of work, he recharges by gardening, skiing, fishing, and walking in the countryside with his loyal dog.
Richard’s background spans more than 25 years in senior corporate roles, including leadership positions at Harte Hanks and Experian. He’s no stranger to big business having led complex mergers, acquisitions, and cultural integrations, but it’s his work with SMEs that truly energises him.
Over the past ten years, Richard has supported countless small business owners through CMC, and when the opportunity came to shape the future of the business, he made the decision to join Rupert as co-owner in 2023 – bringing his expertise and energy to the next chapter in CMC’s journey.
Richard is known for his ability to get to the heart of a business obstacles quickly and practically. He brings a grounded, people-first approach to his work, and in his spare time, enjoys the unique perspective that comes from hot air ballooning.
Rupert and Richard didn’t take over CMC just to keep things ticking over, they took it on because they believe deeply in what CMC offers: genuine, experienced support for ambitious business owners who want to grow, change, or plan their next move.
Having both built and sold businesses themselves, they know the journey can be demanding and lonely at times. That’s why they’ve worked hard to create a network of advisers who don’t just offer advice, they bring real-world experience and practical solutions.
Their short-term aim is to grow CMC by 25%, but the bigger goal is clear: to make CMC the UK’s most trusted and effective business support franchise for SME owners.
When Rupert and Richard are asked to sum up CMC, their answer is simple:
“It’s a group of experienced business people helping other business people. People who’ve actually run, owned and sold businesses. We understand the pressure, the risks, and the reward, and we’re here to share that experience to help others succeed.”
Whether you’re dealing with growing pains, planning an exit, facing a turnaround, or just want a fresh perspective, Rupert and Richard have built a team, and a business, that’s here to help.
They’re not just at the top of the business – they’re at the heart of it. Listening, supporting, and helping business owners move forward with confidence.
